The Strokes bassist Nikolai Fraiture is thrilled the initial hype surrounding the Last Nite band has died down, because they can finally be taken seriously as musicians.

The Strokes have stormed to the top of the
NME Chart this week with Juicebox, the first single from their new album.
The New Yorkers have knocked
Franz Ferdinand's Walk Away into second place. But it's good news for
Arcade Fire who rise one place to three with Wake Up.
Hard-Fi have the only other new entry this week, slipping into the chart in fifth place with Cash Machine.

The Strokes showcased tracks from their new album
'Impressions From Earth' to an intimate audience of 80 fans at a secret London location on Friday evening for an MTV special.
Casablancas and co ripped through a selection of old and new tracks, including
'Red Light',
'The End Have No End',
'Reptilia' and new single
'Juice Box', all of which you can enjoy on the stroke of midnight on
December 31 when
MTV Live: The Strokes is broadcast on MTV.
After spending a week in London, the boys have now jetted off to the continent to peddle their wares to appreciative European audiences before heading back over here for a
full UK tour in January and February.

series of secret gigs that MTV will be staging in association with
Motorola.

The Strokes will kick off the New Year on
MTV with an exclusive gig recorded at our Camden studios.
Filmed in front of 100 fans,
MTV Live: The Strokes will be shown from midnight on
MTV UK on December 31, just hours before the band release their new album,
First Impressions Of Earth. The set includes new songs and classic tracks from Is This It and Room On Fire.
But if you can't wait until then,
MTV.co.uk will be offering users First Impressions Of Earth as a first listen from December 28. You'll be able to listen to the whole album for free ahead of its release. It's because we care.
If that hasn't sated your appetite for all things Strokes, alongside the
MTV broadcast
Xfm will take audio from the gig to produce an exclusive radio broadcast to air on January 2 at 7.30pm. The show will will feature the whole live show, plus interviews with the band.
